We stand with the protesters demanding justice for countless Black victims of racism.
We stand with the victims of murder, repression, systemic racism, mass incarceration, and over-policing.
We stand against an entrenched culture that supports, through both active malevolence and through ignorance, the perpetuation of white supremacy.
We stand against police brutality and repression of protest.
We call on our elected officials, our friends, our community, and especially all white people to acknowledge their privilege, and to seize this moment, and move our nation towards justice and equity for all.
All of these words mean nothing unless we take action.
The Woodstar Café has supported, and continues to support, such causes as: Black Lives Matter, The Performance Project, The Sojourner Truth Memorial Committee, The NAACP, The Sentencing Project, Fair Fight, The ACLU, Out Now, and many others.
Writing checks is not enough. In addition:
We have provided anti-racism training to all of our staff.
We promise to bring our humble selves and open hearts to the mission of educating ourselves, and to become active listeners so that we may be part of the solution.
We promise to always make our beliefs clear, by word and deed, to our staff, our customers and our community.
